Recently I was asked about Organizational Chart (org-chart) software. One of the requirements of an audit is to provide the auditors with an updated org-chart as of the last day of the fiscal year. When you are small you can use the org-chart software that comes with Microsoft Office (or really a piece of paper, draw boxes and put in names). But as you grow this becomes more cumbersome to maintain; however, odds are you have all the information in a SQL database somewhere so its just a matter of getting to it and reporting off of it.
So, how to proceed?
Take a look at a few packages and decide which is technically best for you (and fits your internal corporate IT standards). A few I have recommended in the past are:
And an on-demand solution by Zoho People – but this is a tree based view that may not work for the auditors.
I know it seems like a ridiculous expense but once you get above 50 employees this really is a time saver and beats having an admin spending hours updating every time there are changes in employees.
