time to update travel guidelines!

Happy New Year!  You’re back in the office, you are potentially trying to close the books but you are also trying to update all the expense guidelines for 2009.  If you have purchased the Travel Guidelines that we created, you will need to update the following:

2009 Mileage Rates: in Canada, per CRA, it is still 0.52 per kilometer for the first 5,000km and 0.46 per km thereafter; in the US, per the IRS, it is 58.5¢ per mile.

2009 Meal Per Diems: in Canada, per CRA, it is C$51/day without receipts; in the US, per the US General Services Administration, it remains, on average at US$55 / day.

Insurance - you should review your annual coverage (if applicable) for: Business Travel Accident Insurance (through corporate credit cards?), Travel Accident Insurance (through corporate travel agent?), Automobile Insurance for rental cars (e.g. Collision Damage Waiver (”CDW”), Liability Insurance Supplement (”LSI”), Loss Damage Waiver (”LDW”), Personal Accident Insurance (”PAI”) - which could all be covered by the corporate credit card).

Customs and Export Control Requirements: Department of Homeland Security or in Canada the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
