OK my favorite web application developers - don’t make me name names (you know who you are) - I need to ask a favor: please fill in this 2009 TechCrunch Web App Survey. Why?
small businesses need better comparables!
It’s true. Many small businesses need comparables to measure their success (or lack thereof) or help to put together reasonable business plans. Even I have tweeted and blogged looking for guidance on what are considered industry standard ratio’s for a company of our size, the little guy, but it is so hard to get the information! Of course there are stats out there but mostly the information comes from publicly traded companies, or large corporations pushing an agenda, which is not relevant to a start up or small company.
Thankfully as TechCrunch is preparing for TechCrunch50 (September 2009) they are always keeping an eye out for the little guy. As such, they announced earlier this week the survey. I’ve reviewed the questions and none are particularly invasive and the majority are metrics you should already be tracking. The fact that the survey can be anonymous as well is a bonus if you are shy about your results.
And, as you know, I am a bit of a business intelligence nut so better information can only mean better decisions so it’s time to do your part! As they say: garbage in, garbage out. So, let’s make sure they have some quality information that represents us!
I must say, when the survey results are revealed in October 2009 I will be pouring over the details.
Thanks again!
